Parental Bday Bash

Southern style potluck

My sis and I threw my Mom and Dad a southern style birthday potluck over the weekend. Their birthdays are only a few days apart so we thought we’d get the most bang for our buck by combining them. Evites were diligently sent and followed up on, ribs were seasoned and slow cooked and streamers went up by the yard (gosh, I love me some streamers!)

Friends and family showed up en masse and we ate, drank and played ourselves silly with the Sugiura Family Official Game: Cards Against Humanity. *Note: this game is not for the faint of heart, easily offended or morally virtuous person. It is a horribly offensive, mean and disgusting game that is way too ridiculous not to play šŸ™‚

Overall, the evening was a great success! Onto the next family birthday….which is mine!!!

Get on board the blog party

OK guys, so this is my first time doing something like this…..

I’ve joined the 2013 Valentine’s Day Blogging Party hosted by this lovely lady and a bunch of her blogger friends. I follow Lauren’s blog pretty regularly and thought it was time to put my bloggin self out there and be an active participant. I submitted my name and blog and was paired up with a fellow blog lover for a Valentine’s Day gift exchange (Hi Megan!) What happens is that we send each other a thoughtful gift in the mail by Feb. 7 then share our surprises on our blogs. It’s like a virtual party and gift exchange – how cool is that?! AND you get something fun in the mail, which is always a bonus.

I already have some ideas in mind for my new blog friend. Stay tuned for our exchange….and be sure to check out her blog: www.meganbelcher.com She’s got a precious new baby and TONS of pets, which I’m very jealous of šŸ™‚

Currently.

Loving: Incorporating my new gifted holiday jewelry into my wardrobe! I must say, everything I received (thanks BF and sis!) has already made it into regular rotation and it’s only mid-January. I love when new items fit seamlessly into my clothing obsessed world. AND, it gives me a good reason to get rid of the cheap stuff I’ve been hanging onto – so long Forever 21 earrings! It’s been real.

Reading: I just finished Bad Habits: Confessions of a Recovering Catholic by Jenny McCarthy – meh – I’m getting desperate. I feel like I’m running out of book options in the online library. I guess I need to expand my search outside of biographies, even though they are my most fav genre! I might have to break down and buy the third book of the Game of Thrones as a special treat to myself if I can’t find anything worthy of a read. I’ve been SO good and have waited SO patiently……

Watching: We saw Argo last night at iPic. Hello Ben Affleck! What a DILF. Oh, and great movie by the way šŸ™‚ After seeing my third movie in a row at iPic, I’ve realized that I’ve become one of “those people.” The kind that can’t go to a regular movie theater anymore. I need the reclining chairs. I need the neck pillow and fuzzy throw blanket. I need table side snack service. Ugh. This bad habit needs to stop.

Listening to: KEXP. ALL THE FREAKIN TIME. I love that station so much so that I decided it was time to be a donor and support the ‘ish I love. I don’t know what I’d do without John in the morning and the Friday song! That’s my jam.

Thinking about: My upcoming 31st birthday which I’m constantly reminded of every time I step on one of those damn ellipticals where it not only makes you enter your age BUT your weight too. Talk about a double whammy. Sheesh. I’m a huge birthday celebrator and love planning big, but I’m feeling the need to tone it down this year. My favorite meal cooked by my mom and a few friends will do. Oh, and conecakes.

Surprised by: Nothing really. Anyone got any good surprises for me?

Making me sad: My poor puppy. We’ve definitely gotten her over the hump, but man, I just can’t get her back to 100%. She’s had a lingering cough that has been worrisome so I took her into the vet last week for a check up. They ended up doing a few x-rays of her heart and it has enlarged since the last one in August šŸ™ We’re now working on getting her squared away with long term medication for her heart murmur. I’m constantly worried that she’s in pain and/or uncomfortable. Anyone have any experience with puppies with heart issues?

Making me happy: WE’RE GETTING A NBA TEAM BACK TO SEATTLE. ‘Nuff said.

Random.

Haven’t really had much to blog about lately. Just trying to get back into the day to day stuff after the holiday season. Work has really picked up so I’ve had less brain cells to devote to creativity. Seems like all I really do is commute, cook, clean then repeat. Not terribly exciting. Hoping to get a Valentine’s Day craft project in this weekend to liven things us. Here’s to the upcoming three day weekend!

Clean, clean, clean. That’s all we seem to be doing these days.
Cold. It’s been maj cold here in Seattle lately. Sometimes even a double ice scrape day. I hate those.
Sick. Back to the vet for a check up. Poor puppy hates me šŸ™
Meat. First, and might I say, successful attempt at a pot roast.

Treat. Seahawk doughnuts for the big playoff game. They lost, but I won with these babies.
Commute. My view every morning and afternoon. Ugh.
