‘Bout Time

Oh man, I just attended my first flat track roller derby over the weekend and I’m totally hooked! We saw the infamous Rat City Roller Girls on Saturday night at Key Arena, where we helped set the record for the National Roller Derby Attendance (go us!). We got there a bit late, but quickly found some seats and some $9 beers. Ridiculous, right?

We finally figured out how things worked after the first ’bout and really got into the game. Being the gambler than I am, I couldn’t resist a little betting action with my gal pal Megan and took the Sockit Wenches for the win of the second ’bout. And yes, I pick my roller teams just like I do my ponies, by their names, and their names only.

Those ladies took some serious hip and shoulder checks and a few could barely peel themselves off the track. This was serious stuff. My team started to fall apart during the second half and were soon behind more than 40 points. My endless profanities and cheering could not help the bruised and battered team, and sadly, they lost and my dear friend Megan gained a new pair of Cole Haan sunglasses.

Portland

Just got back from a weekend of all around debauchery in Portland. Man, I love that city! Spent the weekend supporting the BF’s documentary, Sonicsgate, which was playing at the Portland Beer & Movie Festival but also squeezed in plenty of fun time.

Did a little tax-free shopping, ate way too many good meals (check out the Urban Farmer at The Nines hotel for THE best breakfast – with no wait natch.) and hung out at various drinking establishments around town. AND, we were able to hit up Voodoo Doughnut in the wee hours of the night to get a few of their famous, cereal-encrusted doughnuts. Not exactly the best idea after consuming lots of alcohol, but I couldn’t pass it up with it being right around the corner.

Sailin’ in the South Pacific

I’ve had a busy few days with the last of the birthday celebrations (thanks everyone for the fab gifts! can’t wait to start my garden!) and, of course, Valentine’s Day, my second most favorite holiday of the year.

We spent the day-o-love having brunch at Pomegranate in Redmond where we indulged in far too many good treats including the chocolate-orange brioche french toast with spiced whipped cream and the Firebread Breakfast with sautéed spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, scrambled eggs topped with white cheddar AND chopped fresh basil. I swear, the BF’s french toast was cut two inches thick! It was more like a dessert than a breakfast, but oh so good none the less!

We also watched a bit of the Olympics and closed the day feasting on New York strip steaks from the new butcher down the street, Bill the Butcher (clever, I know). I also tried my hand at making sage-butter sauce for our gnocchi, which turned out pretty good and was easy to make! I also discovered that after boiling my gnocchi, throwing them in a hot pan with a bit of olive oil to crisp them up makes them a million times better. Ah, the little things in life!

After a weekend of indulging, it was back to a short week of work, which included a trip to the 5th Avenue Theatre to see South Pacific with my gal pals. What a fab show! I think I had the song ‘I’m gonna wash that man right outta my hair’ stuck in my head for the rest of the night. Looking forward to seeing our next few shows including Legally Blonde next month. It’s really such a treat being able to see shows like that for such a good price! Anyone under 30 should look into the 5th ticket packages; they are an awesome deal!

Birthday Snaps to Me (and Taylor)!

It was pointed out to me this morning that it is also Taylor Lautner’s birthday as well (Twi-Hards be jealous, very jealous). I am exactly 10 years older than him. Wow. That doesn’t make me feel old or anything….At least I won’t have to feel so bad about looking at his hot, shirtless bod since he’s no longer jail bait 🙂

I will be spending my birthday working, going to lunch with my two BFF’s Penny and Megan at George’s in Kirkland then it’s off to Zumba class. Not too exciting as I am saving it all for my family dinner at my ‘rents tomorrow night. It’s way more fun to party on a Friday anyways!

Exhaustion.

After hitting the gym four days in a row this week (go me.), I think I’ve maxed my poor old body out. It’s amazing how much things can change from 18 to 28….my knees creak, my feet can’t seem to move fast enough, stretching becomes a must and cool downs….I can’t forget about those or else my muscles tense up so badly that I can’t walk. Ugh. To be a late-twenty something trying to get back into shape. Fun times.

I’ve got one more class for the week, Body Pump on Saturday morning, then I’m good to go until Monday. I think the gym whirlpool hot tub and steam room will be calling my name after class……Can’t wait to enjoy a little SuperBowl action on Sunday with many beers and cheesy dips. Yum.

Go Saints!
