Turkey tag-a-long!

Bought my first turkey this week at Top Foods. They had a sale on turkeys for .49/lb. if you spent $25 at the store. Not sure what a good deal is on these gobblers, but it seemed like one to me! Picked up a nice, managable 14 pounder to cook up on Sunday while the BF watches football ALL DAY LONG. I’ve cooked many things in my lifetime, but never a turkey. Figured 29 going on 30 would be a good time to start. Plus, I’ve got holiday on the brain – my faux white christmas tree was delivered today – can’t wait to decorate that baby!

(And yes, I put my turkey on the floor for this shot. It was too hard to hold the turkey, hold the camera AND direct Stella with some doggie cookies! Whatever.)

Sushi Roll

The BF’s bro was in town over the weekend and he treated us to a front row seat sushi rollin’ fest! He’s a sushi chef down in Tahoe and treated us to tons-o-rolls (made in minutes flat). If I only could have this every day……

Candy Complaint

I bought a bunch of Easter candy over the holiday weekend and ended up with some pretty bad tasting Peep product – this new chocolate filled candy thing – ick. I paid $4 bucks for the bag so I called up the company to complain. They didn’t give me my money back (darn it.) but they did send me this lovely box full of all kinds of candy – all kinds of candy that I like! Thanks Peeps!

Soup for you!

Threw together this awesome soup the other night. Wanted something that would last for the week to chow down on. This endless rain makes me think of soup. And of rainboots. And of tropical beach locations with no rain that I could vacation to. Sigh.

Italian Chicken Soup

2 – 32 oz. boxes of chicken stock
1 package of chicken sausage (I like the Trader Joe’s one the best and it’s cheap!)
4 cups thawed, frozen spinach, squeezed of all water (so pack those cups full!)
1 cup cooked orzo
1 can diced tomato, drained and rinsed
1 can white kidney beans (or really any canned bean of your choice)
Salt and pepper to taste, plus some red pepper flakes if you’re feeling hot!

Empty the two boxes of chicken stock into a large pot and turn stove onto medium heat. In a small pot, cook the orzo until al dente, drain and rinse in cold water to stop the cooking process – set aside. Take the sausage out of its skin and cook up the meat in a frying pan, breaking it into small pieces – drain and set aside.

Once the orzo and sausage are cooked and the stock is heated up, add them to the pot along with the spinach, can of tomato (with its juices) and the rinsed beans. Let all of this heat up a bit, season with salt and pepper and those optional red pepper flakes.

Going to go home now and have this for lunch šŸ™‚
