Goodwill Glitter Sale 30th Anniversary!

We made our annual trek to the Goodwill Glitter Sale a few weeks back. Our gal pals Jenae and Caety killed it and got in line at 3am – yes, that’s 3am in the freaking morning! – to get our awesome place. Megan and I rolled in around 6am to relieve them for a coffee and potty break. We cut our numbers in line by half this year; last year we were around 110th. Word on the street is that the people in the very front camped out starting at 8pm the night before – ummmm no thanks. IMO, as  long as you are in the first 250, you are good to go!

I was on a mission this year for fun wedding accessories, but came out empty handed. Since I don’t have my dress yet, it was hard to know which direction to take the jewelry. Womp womp. BUT I did end up with a greyish white 70s long wool jacket with a fur color in mint condition for $50. You guys, it was like it had never been worn before! A quick trip to the dry cleaner and that bad boy will be ready to take on the town!

Next year, the sale will be right around the time of our wedding so sadly I’ll have to miss it. This gal is going to need her beauty sleep not a 5am wake up call before her big day šŸ˜‰

Sick as a dog.

UGH. I’m sick. I’m so sick that I’m debating whether or not I can attend Thanksgiving this week with my family. See, I have a lovely 85 year old grandma who means the world to me and to think that I could potentially give her this bone shattering cough/illness/sickness/disease thing just doesn’t sit right with me. I’ve got a doctor’s appointment coming up shortly, so hopefully that will help me make my decision. I swear, I’ll have a 6-pack after all of this hacking.

But that’s just the icing on the confetti cake…..we’ve suddenly had a myriad of house issues this past week. When it rains, it pours my friends. It all started on Friday, when I received a frantic call from the BF saying the power in our ENTIRE house is out and that there is smoke coming from the breaker panel AND that he was late to a meeting and had to run. I begged him to take Stella with him and began calling around for an available electrician as the zeros started adding up in my head for a complete electrical overhaul.

I found a reputable company that was available that afternoon and met them in our cold, dark house. They immediately honed in on the issue (poorly installed outlets in the kitchen) and got our house back up and running in no time. The outlets kept tripping the entire electrical system, which is why our heaters haven’t been working for the past two months. Finally, we had actually, real heat again too! I gladly handed over the payment. Huzzah for working heat!

The weekend went by without a hitch and come Monday morning, I noticed that the front door wasn’t locking. Great. Real &*$% great. Luckily, the BF was home that day and was able to keep an eye on things. I came home from work sick that afternoon, called a locksmith and 1.5 hours later had a working door. A few more dollars bills slipped away – sigh – but we had a beautifully functioning front door again.

Thinking that the worst was over, the BF goes to take a shower that night and the shower head is at a trickle. Really? We tie on a baggie full of vinegar to see if that would do the trick but alas, who was I kidding? It was still not functioning the next day and I was left to take a bath using a cup. Wow. And I thought it couldn’t get any worse…..I had a big meeting that I couldn’t miss that morning and this gal needed a shower with all of that lovely steam to decongest. #$%*

Fast forward through the meeting (which I nailed nach) and I get home to a front door that won’t unlock EVEN THOUGH WE JUST GOT IT FIXED 24 HOURS AGO. OK, so I maybe lose it on the front porch. Call up the BF, have him try his keys, kick, scream and finally barge into our house. The locksmith comes back and completes some minor adjustments and we’re back in working order. After a good couch nap, I tackle the shower head and got that fixed and back into working order.

So to recap, we now have working heat, a brand new re-keyed front door, a steaming shower to enjoy and a drained bank account. Fabulous. Sorry for the whinefest my friends. It’s been a hell of a holiday week around here…..

Currently.

Reading: Now that I’m not taking the bus to work, I’ve consumed far fewer books lately, which is kinda sad. AND, we don’t even have cable so there’s plenty of down time in the evenings….gotta get back on the book train! But I did recently read The Paris Wife, by Paula McLain (in hard copy no doubt!) It took me about two weeks to finish it, but man, it was good! It’s about Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley. Super well written, a bit romantic, a bit dramatic…..def a worth while read.

Eating: Well I’m trying to not eat a bunch of sugar these days. Sugar is a big one for me….cookies, doughnuts, anything frosted….. and my acupuncturist thought it would be a good idea to cut it out of my diet for 10 days to see how I felt. I had a very difficult time eliminating it completely, but did lower my intake by at least 85%, which I thought was pretty good. Gawd, sugar is in EVERYTHING. It was so annoying to think a product was free of sugar to turn it over and find 1g written on the nutritional information. Unfortunately, I really didn’t notice much of a change after 10 days. Perhaps I need to go for a longer period of time? I dunno. Either way, I’m def keeping better track of my sugar consumption and keeping it on the lower end.

Thinking about: Our wedding, which is over a year away. The venue is lined up, the photographer is booked, our first catering meeting is next week…..man, it’s never ending and far more annoying then I had imagined. I thought me being an event planner would make this a fun project, but it’s far from that. I don’t hate the planning aspect, but I’m def not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. Maybe because it feels more like work??? Either way, I’m ready to take some time off of planning to enjoy the holidays and will pick it back up in January.

Watching: Sons of Anarchy, Season 5. Oh man, when I found out that Netflix had Season 5 available, I cancelled all of my plans and spent most of Saturday glued to my ipad. I blew through the first four season in a matter of weeks and had been eagerly anticipating the next season. People, this show is SO FREAKING GOOD! Maj drama, crazy story lines and a lil eye candy (Hey Charlie Hunnam!)….I can’t rave enough about this show. I seriously want to buy a motorcycle and join a bike club.

Loving: Like I’ve said before, I’m seriously loving our new home. We’ve had a few parties and smaller dinners here already and I must say, it’s a pretty decent entertaining space (when the heating works). I can’t wait to have summer parties in our backyard – I’ve already got a few ideas in mind šŸ™‚ And let’s not forget about our neighborhood….dropping into Georgetown for sushi at The Cutting Board or hittin’ up Rainier BBQ for pho and deep fried quail….it’s all good (and cheap!) eats around here!

Space heater sigh.

The weather has been mighty crappy around here AND our heat only works in certain rooms of the house. Those rooms happen to be the spaces we’re hardly in – go figure. The space heater shuffle has been refined to a “T” in our household – bedroom, office, living room then back to the bedroom. As you can see, Stella is totally over it.
