Her majesty, Madonna

Photo courtesy of Danielle Plant, photographer extraordinaire!

The gal pals and I recently hit up the Madonna concert at Key Arena. We had bought tickets back in the spring and decided that it was time for us to “big girl splurge” on seats ie. not be up in the rafters for once. Thankfully, buying tickets 6 months ago slowly took away the pain of the ticket price – sheesh! I had to keep telling myself, “It’s Madonna Leslie, this is a once in a lifetime thing. You can do it – no big deal.”

Although her vocals aren’t anything to write home about, her stage presence and dance moves were totally amazing and made up for it. Seeing her move like that was honestly quite inspiring. If I could only move like that when I’m her age, I’d be set. Man.

She played for about two hours – the notorious cone bra was rocked, pants were dropped, political statements were made and priests were in abundance. At one point during ‘Like a Prayer’ I felt like we were in church, but not in one of those stifling, boring ones but like a totally kick ass, rock out with your ‘ish out type. I seriously considered taking Madonna as my religious at one point during the night. That’s normal, right? šŸ™‚

This show kicks off our week long music venture as we take off to Austin for Austin City Limits early next week. Yee-haw!!!

Sept. Birchbox

Birchbox
Ugh, late in posting this but I just didn’t see anything super inspiring in my Birchbox shipment this past month. I guess it can’t be a slam dunk every month – NBD. I have been curious about Madewell so I may have to do a bit of online shopping with this discount card (note: the coupon was only for the month of Sept. – bummer.). Other than that, it was kind of a yawn for me. Fingers crossed for a better box this coming month!

JFS Food Sort.

OMGeeee! So much food – it was a sight to be seen! JFS hosts an annual food drive around the Jewish holidays and we invite volunteers to come help us sort it all out and store it away for use down the road. This was my first time at this event and it was utterly divine organized chaos – I loved every minute of it! Click here to find out how you can donate to my organization and our Food Bank.

Stella Update

Our pharmacy
Dr. Brown fixin’ the patient up
A consistently sick puppy has been the story of our lives lately. Our most recent veterinary adventures have included a heart echo, a pretty gnarly dental visit and a pinched nerve in her back. The heart echo came back as expected – a mild heart murmur, which is quite common in her breed – something to keep an eye on in the future. The dental visit, although very traumatic, seemed to just be what the doctor ordered (hallelujah! finally something that made her feel better for once!) UNTIL she was dancing around one afternoon and tweaked something leading to the pinched nerve, which essentially left her immobilized.
She seems to be doing a bit better with heavy sedation and pain meds. I have the next few days off of work and am planning to take super, extra good care of her so we don’t have to go back to the vet. It’s sad when they know you by first name……I just want my happy puppy back šŸ™

S*#T My Dad Says.

My dad can be a pretty entertaining guy through email. I don’t know what it is about that form of communication, but he’s definitely got a knack for topics. He also has some very strong opinions about female celebrity hair styles, Subway sandwiches and life in general. Below, are some recent correspondence I’ve had with my dad. Enjoy!

In regards to a Chicago Tribune article about microwave popcorn:
don’t eat that shit. only hot air popped.

In regards to a photo of my dog, who just had major dental surgery:
the only thing she is watching is the back of her eyelids.

In regards to the photo I sent to him of me and future Sonics owner Chris Hansen:
nice pics, u should of asked Chris Hansen if he had a place for you in his new organization. you could be the new sonics PR person. Big Bucks.

From an email entitled ‘gossip’:
I will give katy perry and john mayer about 2-3 months. subway is having its buy a foot long sub special on selected sandwiches. These only cost the same as the small sub. hella deal. just had one today.

In regards to a craigslist post of these super ugly porcelain elephants:
these would look amazing in moms yard.  ha hahahahahahha  maybe a possible xmas present for her garden.

From an email entitled ‘hurricane leslie’:
she on her way to bermuda, gonna be a class 2 by then. I saw another pic of miley and she just looks like shit. Very unattractive. the only reason she has a boyfriend is cause she has lots of money. no more mickey mouse  stuff for her. love dad

From an email entitled ‘celeb gossip’ (do you see a trend here?):
First of all,let me say that miley’s haircut looks like shit. Second, I noticed that taylor swift has a new 18yr old boyfriend, I figure that should last a little longer than  some of her previous liaisons since he is only 18. I give that one no more than 1 year max before he figures that out. He will be starstruck at first but that will change and of course little taylor will write another song about another broken relationship. Poor girl, she must be hard to get along with, it can’t be all of the guys fault because we are never wrong. love dad
