I managed my first, and hopefully only, wedding of the year over in Leavenworth, WA the other weekend for a friend’s younger sister. I do these from time to time – managing the ‘day of’ logistics (my favorite part). I save the real planning for the brides, since most like to do that stuff anyways!

After 12 years in the event planning biz, I like to think of myself as a pretty solid planner, but for some reason this one really kicked my arse. I could blame it on a multitude of things: me being older, the 100 degree heat, the ceremony and reception sites being super far apart, the dust/wind/bees etc. whatever it was burned me out. For those of you out there who do this for a living, my hat is off to you. Weddings just seem ten times harder than any of the events I plan….or maybe it’s just the pressure of making this extra special day absolutely perfect.

Complaining aside, everything went remarkably smooth and I was thrilled that it all came together in the end. The bride went for a country chic theme and it was truly lovely. They had a close family friend make the swag and burlap accessories, which lent a personal and rustic touch – that gal needs to be on Etsy! Other highlights included local pies for dessert instead of cake and strawberry jam as both the takeaway and the seating assignment. Overall, a wonderful wedding day for a handsome couple!

Congratulations Mac and Johnny!

If you really knew me…..

You’d know that my first grade teacher thought I had a reading problem in elementary school. After being put in a “special reading” class, they soon found out I was just a super shy kid who actually was an excellent reader. To this day, I can finish a book in warp speed!

You’d know that I have a large cover up tattoo on my rear end to mask the “I’m a college freshman and can do what I want” tattoo which happen to be 3 Japanese symbols. What was I thinking?!
Hidden Hand Tattoo artist Ash Wednesday hooks you up!
You’d know that I am 30 years old and I still sleep with my blanket. After all of these years, I still can’t part with my blanket I’ve had since I was a baby. It doesn’t go on vacation with me anymore, but if I’m at home, it’s by my side. Oh, and my dad offered me $200 as a kid to get rid of it and I said no. I wonder if the offer still stands…….

You’d know that I’m an outdoors woman. I love to clam dig, crab, fish, hunt – you name it! – but I always eat what I catch. I’m not a trophy hunter.

Clamming on the WA coast.

You’d know that I’ve always had a red headed friend in my life. Cameron, my next door neighbor growing up; Dustin, in high school and now my BFF from college, Katy. There’s always a fiery haired friend around!

You’d know that my grandfather (on my Dad’s side) was put in the local Japanese internment camps during WW2. Luckily, he was never transported out of state because he was put to work in the shipyards. I love digging up family history and have begun to keep records and photos.

My grandpa is the third child from the right hand side – the smirking one.
You’d know that I religiously file and turn in my taxes on Feb. 3 of every year. I’m horrible with math and numbers but my love for getting money back trumps all!

You’d know that I consider myself to be a pretty neat person EXCEPT when it comes to my bedroom. It regularly looks like a Category 4 tornado hit. I think I secretly like seeing all of my worldly possessions scattered all over the floor.

One mess coming right up!

Speaking of tornadoes, you’d know that I regularly have a dream where I see them (yes, there are always multiples) in the distance or that they are coming for me. Dream interpret as you deem fit.

You’d know that I love all things medieval. Movies, books (espec. romance novels), TV shows……everything! I think I was a lady-in-waiting in a former life and a European castle tour ranks high on my bucket list.

Dance magic with the Craft Spells

It’s showtime!

Craft Spells fun.

Pure dance magic with the Sugiura sisters.

Saw my first show at the Neptune and saw my first performance of Craft Spells (my sister’s BF is their drummer – go Andy!) Majorly good and totally 80s/The Cure but updated with a twist – you get what I’m saying, right? 🙂

Reminded me of the days when the BF was rippin’ the guitar in his band around the music venues of Seattle. Sort of miss those days, but sort of don’t. It’s always a treat to see your man up on the stage, but it’s not a treat to spend your weekends in dark, dingy bars. My, how we all grow up!

Mmmmmm’s….

We snagged some killer seats for the day game at Safeco Field on Sunday. Killer as in “very front row/ section hostess offering us candy and sunscreen/right behind the M’s dugout” section. I’m getting a little too spoiled with my sports seating these days – to go into the outfield would be a gosh, darn shame! Although I usually don’t find the game of baseball that thrilling, I was kept busy by the behinds staring me right in the face. Ah, tight white pants. Sigh.

Seafair sportage

I volunteered at the Seafair Triathlon on Sunday. A fellow event friend was in need and I’ve been meaning to help out for a while now. What I didn’t realize was that my helping would involve a 5:45am check in time at Seward Park – ugh. But once I woke up and got my volunteer tasks, I was glad to get a front row seat to all of the action. It was cool to cheer on all of the athletes and it was inspiring to see the wide range of ages and abilities.
