Oh John.

We had the meanest, nastiest toilet west of the Mississippi. Seriously people. It was located in this dark, swampy corner of our bathroom and whatever quick fixes we tried seemed to make it worse. So worse, in fact, that I was consistently worried about falling through the floor. Eek! I knew that this was going to be one of the first major projects I had lined up as soon as I found myself a handyman. And Jesus, finding a decent handyman was, in itself, a huge project! It’s a lost art I tell ya!

It’s highly likely that this was THE original toilet from when the condos were built back in the late 70s. This was later confirmed by my newly appointed handyman – poor guy. Holy crap. Literally. And get this, this was a wall mounted toilet – a what? A wall mounted toilet, which means not only were we replacing the old toilet but we were redoing some maj plumbing. And you know what maj plumbing means $$$$ Ugh.

But it had to be done so I bit the bullet and 10 hours of labor revealed this shiny new bad boy complete with replaced pieces of rotted wall, re-texturizing and paint! I was really impressed with the finished product and the formerly swampy corner is now dry as a bone. I still have some tiles to fix but man, what a relief it was getting this fixed. I’m going to give my handyman a week to recover from this project the it’s on to the next!

Have you conquered any scary projects lately?

Puppy love.

Happy Valentine’s Day lovers!
There are very, very few things that I love more than my pup Stella. Cooking also ranks high on my love list. So I combined the two and found this recipe from ‘A Cozy Kitchen’ blog and thought it might be fun to expand my cooking expertise to puppies! I was also hoping to include these treats in my blog gift exchange package if they turned out OK and Stella approved (which she enthusiastically did). I like that they require very few ingredients AND they are gluten free. I’ve never worked with garbanzo bean flour before, but luckily the co-cop carried it. It makes the dough extremely sticky so use it liberally to flour ALL surfaces.
Gluten Free Dog Treats
1 medium banana, mashed
3 tablespoons creamy (natural) peanut butter
1 large egg
1 3/4 cup garbanzo bean flour
1/4 cup rolled oats
1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. In a small bowl, mix together the banana, peanut butter and egg; mix until completely combined. To a medium bowl, add the flour and rolled oats; mix. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and combine until the dough comes together.
2. Transfer the dough to a piece of heavily floured wax paper. Note: The dough will be sticky so flouring everything (wax paper, rolling pin and cookie cutter) is important. Roll the dough to a 1/4-inch thickness and cut out the cookies using a cookie cutter of choice; re-roll the scraps and cut out more cookies. (I used a small heart cookie cutter and ended up with 22 cookies.) Transfer the cookies to a parchment lined cookie. These cookies won’t spread so placing them close together (not touching) is okay. If you don’t want to roll the dough out, alternatively, you can scoop teaspoon of dough onto a baking sheet, flattening cookies with the ball of your palm.
3. Bake the cookies for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown. Allow the cookies to come to room temperature on a cooling rack. Cookies will be good for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.
**I cooked them for 30 minutes at 300 degrees then transferred them to a wire rack, turned off the oven and put them back in the warmed oven overnight to fully dry out. That made them extra crispy!

App-etizing.

Oh man, it’s never ending. Just when I declared I’ve lessened my ‘tech time’ I go and buy myself a new iPad for my birthday AND find fantastic new apps. I won’t even go into my new/old gaming obsession, SNOOD…UGH.

My new fav app is called Over. It’s a quick and easy way to add cool typography to your pics. I’m still trying to get the hang of it, but overall I’m having fun so far!

What are the new, hip apps that have been dazzling you lately??

Hey girl….link up!

I’m a huge fan of memes of all kinds, but the Ryan Gosling memes seriously nail it EVERY FREAKIN TIME. Had to participate in this link up party and meme out the BF a bit since he is such a good sport at putting up with my neurotic personality. Love ya babe!
