The wolf pack tried out the new trampoline place, Sky Zone, in K-town on Friday (Grand Opening is 12/10). We lucked out and had the ENTIRE place to ourselves and paid $11 each to jump for an hour, which was plenty of time to get your workout on. The music could have been louder and the refs could have been a bit less anal about their long list of rules (come on guys, we’re almost 30 – we can jump and not hurt ourselves – sheesh.), but overall another fun option for entertainment. Not sure how I’d feel with a bunch of other peeps/kids there, but word on the street is that they’re working on jump aerobics classes – sign me up!
I’ve been trying to hit up some of my favorite lunch time spots before I leave the Eastside for the fast-paced, foodie city of Seattle. For some reason, I always forget this place for lunch though it’s one of the fam’s go to places for dinner when the Sugiura’s want to do a bit of celebrating!
Shamiana serves up a mean Indian buffet lunch for $9.95. Yup, that’s right, $9.95 for killer Indian food! They have THE best curry around – the Major Grey Chicken comes highly recommended by yours truly. Try it out sometime if you’re on the ‘other’ side of the lake.
Lots of changes happening around here……just accepted a new position as the Director of Special Events at a non-profit in Seattle. Sad to leave the winery after 5 years, but I’m ready for a change and new challenges! With that change comes a whole lot of crazy – new phone, new commute, new colleagues to meet….the list goes on and on. Then you throw in the upcoming holidays and you’ve got some serious madness in the works. Trying not to freak out too much as I stare at my mile long to do list for this weekend.
Was a bit overzealous before Thanksgiving and actually had our faux tree up prior to the kick off of the holiday season. I also went crazy on ebay, buying up vintage ornaments. Hella obsessed. Hella. Still hoping to add an actual stump base (found some “pinspiration” the other day….) we’ll see if I get that far. Hoping to finish the decorating this weekend AND put up the outside lights. Lovin’ on the iphone camera and all of the options they give you. Still trying to figure out what works best/looks good, but here’s my first attempt (holiday tree above.)
I must say, my first attempt at cooking a turkey was a great success! I decided to go with the oven bags after receiving good reviews from my colleagues and I’m glad I did! It came out perfect and moist and all I did was throw it in the oven for 4 hours. I was a bit worried at first because the darn thing was still a bit frozen on the inside after 3 days of thawing in the fridge. Luckily, that didn’t seem to matter and the bird was that perfect, golden brown.
I cheated on the stuffing and the gravy – I know. Prepping that bird was stressful enough so I figured I could cut corners in other places. The Trader Joe’s cornbread stuffing mix was pretty awesome. I just added some cooked sausage to beef it up. The gluten free gravy was OK. Next time, I’m making gravy the old fashioned way (just gotta figure out how to get the juice out of the bag without making a mess!)
1,000th in line did not seem very promising as we walked further and further away from the downtown Seattle Goodwill to reach the end of the line. It happened to be the annual Glitter Sale, only held once per year at their Dearborn store. Employees hoard away all that glitters throughout the year – designer shoes, jewelry, purses, accessories and dresses – then put them up for sale for one weekend in November. All proceeds generated benefit their job training program. Word on the street was that more than 3,700 people showed up the first day!
After waiting 3 hours in line, we finally got into the sale and it was beyond amazing – almost too amazing. Too many beautiful, sparkly things to look at! My main focus was on jewelry, but they had a lottery system that didn’t move as fast as we’d like. We eventually got assistance from their volunteers and I ended up with a few pairs of earrings. It was super crowded, super hot and super overwhelming. I could have probably snagged more but looking at case after case of sparkly baubles made them all blend together!
My calendar is already marked for next year’s sale – I can’t wait! We already have our plan in place. Having 3 hours of wait time gave us plenty of time to think it through. Let’s just say it involves a van, hand warmers and lots of patience!
