Yup, def not busy here.

You guys…not to get on a soapbox or anything, but I came across this article the other day and it REALLY spoke to me. This whole busy concept just really blows my mind. I hear this phrase so much around me and honestly, I really dislike it. It’s like everyone is trying to “out busy” each other – that being busy defines you and makes you a better person. And that if you aren’t crazy busy, then you aren’t being a productive member of society, that you aren’t successful. UGH.

I don’t know about you, but I grew up experiencing those lazy unscheduled summer days as a child. Some of my best memories come from that time in my life. We played, we explored, we created. It was endless amounts of fun. In my college years, the insane technology boom hit. I got a Myspace account and my first cell phone. Texting overrode calling, email boxes overflowed with messages and smartphones essentially became an extension of yourself. It’s very interesting having experienced two ends of the spectrum.

I know as you become an adult, you have more responsibilities, but man, at the rate it’s are going, people will be running themselves into the ground. I often ask myself what kind of life is that? Working your ass off for 10, 15, 20 years and not really allowing yourself to enjoy what short time we have here on Earth? I’m over it. I wish others would be too so we can experience new things together!

I’m lucky to have a job that can be brisk at times, but never takes over my life. I don’t want to be having to check my email 24/7 or be putting in 60 hour work weeks. Maybe that seems lazy to you, but I’m telling you, it makes my life a whole lot more manageable and enjoyable. And I admit, I can over schedule myself now and again, but I’m really trying to make a conscious effort to create some free time. Time that is not structured and not scheduled down to the minute. I want time that allows me to see and do new things and that allows me to connect to people, like really connect. Not just talk about the million things we have to do.

What about you? How do you view being busy? Is it a blessing or a curse?
