Phew! What a weekend! Just got back from a trip up to the North Cascades, which is a place I’m not all that familiar with. I’ve done the Diablo Lake tour back in the day but besides the crazy cool color of the lake, I don’t remember much else. Man, I’ve been missing out! What a gorgeous part of the state. (more…)
I’m sure if you reside in the PNW, you’ve seen this article cross your social media feed as of late.
I’m a bit of a nervous nelly when it comes to natural disasters – I didn’t need this story to get me fretting! Living in an earthquake zone that has not “seen the big one” yet makes you kinda think sometimes. Not to mention the lovely Mt. Rainier that we can see from our front yard that could blow her top any day now. Oh and/or a zombie apocalypse. OK, so maybe not real zombies, but some sort of health/medical disaster. Ugh. My mind can be quite morbid at times.
But at the same time, I’m not one of those ultimate preppers who digs a bunker in their backyard and stockpiles large amounts of food. I like to think of myself as self-sufficient gal who could take care of her family for a week without outside help if need be.
For those who know me well, packing light is not in my vocabulary. I’m the one at the airport shuffling things around because my XL suitcase is past the weight capacity :-/ Yes, an XL suitcase for Mexico. A place where you mostly live in a swim suit. Ugh. I’m bad.
So when the time came to pack for our three week trip to Eastern Europe, I decided to grab the bull by the horns so to speak and made the decision to only bring a carry-on + purse on our adventure. We’d be tackling so many cities and trains and buses, that the thought of lugging a 50+ pound suitcase around didn’t seem very, well, smart. Here’s my search criteria for finding the perfect bag:
Close to or at the average international carry-on size (15.7 x 7.8 x 21.6 inches)
Opens fully – no top stuffing hiking backpacks
A soft exterior
Nothing too flashy
Not a million dollars
I’ve spent the last month or so doing my research online and here were my top three options: (more…)
Ya’ll know my love for Seattle Tilth so when their Chicken Coop & Urban Garden Tour was announced, my calendar was marked STAT. The idea behind this event is to have urban farmers open their yards for insight and inspiration for us up and coming farmers. Hosts were available for short tours and Q&A at each location.
Farms were open all over Seattle, but my Mom and I were on a bit of a time crunch so we stayed close to home in the south end. We visited five sites that afternoon and walked away with a ton of great ideas. I’m actually glad we didn’t check them all out as I’ll be able to check out the north end next year for even more inspiration! (more…)
Seriously. What a band of misfits! This is my third season playing intramural softball through Underdog Sports Leagues and I love it. It’s great getting to know new people and brushing the rust off of those batting skills. Wish I could say the same thing about my fielding, but hey, you can’t win ’em all. We play Sunday afternoons on various crappy fields around Seattle. If you are ever in the mood for a lil entertainment, come and check us out!
