Get on board the blog party

OK guys, so this is my first time doing something like this…..

I’ve joined the 2013 Valentine’s Day Blogging Party hosted by this lovely lady and a bunch of her blogger friends. I follow Lauren’s blog pretty regularly and thought it was time to put my bloggin self out there and be an active participant. I submitted my name and blog and was paired up with a fellow blog lover for a Valentine’s Day gift exchange (Hi Megan!) What happens is that we send each other a thoughtful gift in the mail by Feb. 7 then share our surprises on our blogs. It’s like a virtual party and gift exchange – how cool is that?! AND you get something fun in the mail, which is always a bonus.

I already have some ideas in mind for my new blog friend. Stay tuned for our exchange….and be sure to check out her blog: www.meganbelcher.com She’s got a precious new baby and TONS of pets, which I’m very jealous of šŸ™‚

It’s me…in a box.

Got our holiday party on over the weekend and thought I would share my work of art with ya’ll. I was a bit burnt out on the ugly sweater so I decided to “think outside the box” and create something ugly AND homemade. My sis with a life size Sponge Bob a few years back for Halloween so I took inspiration from her and made myself into a big ole present.

A few boxes, lots of duct tape and a roll of ugly wrapping paper did just the trick and I was soon “boxed up” and ready to go! Of course the gold leggings had to make an appearance so those were dug out of the back of the closet for their yearly outing. Other than my lack of range of motion in my arms (thank god for cups with straws!), the present was actually quite comfortable to wear. A highly recommend idea for any holiday party!

A little before action.
And a little after action!
And a couples shot.

Fall Pinterest Challenge!

I may pin a lot of things, but I like to think that I try a lot of them out too. What’s the point of pinning if you aren’t going to create!? There’s nothing like a Fall Pinterest Challenge via my fav blog peeps at Young House Love to make me step up my game a bit! One project? Pish-haw. How about seven!

Recently Completed Pinterest Fun:

Fixing Broken Powder Makeup
This totally works, but I couldn’t get my powder super smooth. Regardless, it works all the same but just looks a tiny bit funky. NBD.

Lowfat Shepard’s Pie
I think I hit the money with this recipe, which I slightly tweaked a bit by adding more veggies. A total crowd pleaser and low fat šŸ™‚ We ate like Irish kings last week!

Just a few months of marination and these babies will be good to go for baking!

Homemade Vanilla
I’ve had my calendar marked since the beginning of this year to try this out. I ordered my vanilla beans online and picked up some cute glass containers from The Container Store. I can’t wait to see how these turn out in a few months! These may or may not end up being holiday gifts…….

Peanut Butter Cookies
This was a solid peanut butter cookie recipe. Super easy to follow and memorize. A key to any great cookie recipe.

Halloween Popcorn Mix
I wanted to do something easy but festive for my work peeps and I this caught my eye. My mom makes a very similar popcorn mix for Christmas so I knew this would be a hit (adding Fritos makes it an even bigger hit FYI)!

All Hallows treats! These are too easy…..

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
Three ingredients you say? Sign me up! I made these super easy cake-like cookies to go along with my popcorn mix for treats for my work peeps. I like to spoil, what can I say?

Year-end photo book
This is still a work in progress, but I’d say I’m 90% of the way there. I decided to go with Shutterfly and have got my photos through the fall organized and arranged in their premade layout. I have a few open pages left in case I have some good photos over the holidays.

Things on my short list to tackle in the upcoming month:

Skinny Enchilada Lasagna
I like enchiladas, but I swear they never stay rolled for me, which is very annoying. This might solve that problem. Plus, I can make it on Sunday and it’ll feed us for most of the week. I like that, I like that a a lot.

Homemade Caramels
Besides the usual hot buttered rum that I make every year, I’d like to take a stab at making homemade caramels for gifts. My bff from college makes them with her fam and they are to DIE for. I’m hoping these will come out just as good.

Chili Bar
I’d like to host one Sunday afternoon get together and thought this would be a fun theme to try out. It looks not very labor intensive, which I can dig.

What has inspired you lately on Pinterest? Are you in full on holiday pinning mode like me and everyone else out there?

Project Pinterest

As a self described Pinterest Junkie, I try and be sure to not only view all of the lovely/cool/weird/tasty/inspiring things that I come across but also to create/bake/buy/wear/style/eat them too. What’s the good in having all of those neat things pinned if you aren’t going to do anything with them?

My latest pin projects (above) included creating wall art using ticket stubs that the BF and I had seen together; it was like a walk down memory lane! I probably could have made 3 or 4 of these with the amount of shows we’ve seen! I handpicked the ‘best of the best’ including the Sonics ticket the night he told me he loved me. Yes, a true romantic at heart – nothing says I love you more than the NBA šŸ™‚ If you know our household, you know just how true this is.

I also tried out a new recipe and was glad to come across this festive one a few weeks back. I can’t help but get into that holiday spirit – I don’t care what holiday it is! It’s an almond/pistachio bunt cake with a bit of extra green food coloring to make it extra festive. And let me tell you, it was extra good! Moist and sugary, my favorite! Not trusting myself to have it at home (it was a post workout treat last night – whoops), I brought it to work today to let my work peeps enjoy! Here’s the recipe:

Now that I think about it, I also used Pinterest to figure out my latest haircut, which led me to chopping off 6 inches. Gawd, I love this site. Officially obsessed.
