post-november.

Red grapes from the yard. WTF? Totally edible.
Hi there acorn squash!

Gosh you guys, I wish I had more interesting things to talk about
besides the garden and the wedding! My content has def skewed that way
recently. Man, what am I going to do when winter hits the veggie patch
and the wedding is over with?! What am I going to do with myself?
Ahhhhhhhh!

Wait? What is that you say? You’ll have your
weekends back to go to a movie or hang out with friends without making
them give you their opinion on centerpieces? Your bank account will
(hopefully) go back to normal? You can buy clothing that’s not white and
doesn’t include a veil? You don’t have to spend every Saturday of the
month weeding? Get out! Man, November 16 will really be the sweetest day
EVER.

In anticipation of all of the cool things that will fill in my newly spared time, I suspect I just might do things such as:

  • Pick up my golf game! Jefferson Park Golf Course is putting the
finishing touches on their new, two story driving range, just in time
for me to work on my swing again. Fore!
  • Find new places to volunteer around Beacon Hill. I suspect the
Beacon Food Forest will play a role in this, but I’m open to other
suggestions too. I like getting involved in the community. It just feels real nice.
  • Plan a bathroom remodel 🙂 I’m sorry, I just can’t help myself! The
house stuff will continue! I’ve never taken on a full remodel before so
I’m half excited/half scared outta my mind on this one.
  • Continue to hone my cooking skillz. Find that killer crockpot recipe
or learn how to make Indian food. There’s only so much chicken a gal
    can eat without getting bored.

Watching: The Bachelorette. Yes, my friends, I still watch reality TV. I’m not ALWAYS into this show. It just depends on who it is and how fun/hot the contestants are. This season has been decent enough for me to devote the 2 hours a week to it. I want Josh to win, but I suspect she’ll pick Nick, whose a total creeper IMO. Though if I really had my way, it would have been Chris. Poor guy.

Loving: Plucking things from the garden that go right into dinner! So that’s how that “farm-to-table” stuff works!? We’ve been regularly eating salads with lettuce from the yard along with peas and carrots that only need a minute of two of sauteing in butter before they are done. I even made a lasagna using zucchini straight from the yard and our smoothies now have spinach grown by yours truly. So freaking cool!

Listening to: Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Some times, after a long day of being on the phone, listening to my co-workers in meetings and just city noises in general, I just need peace and quiet. I find that shutting off the radio on the way home from work calms me down and gets me out of that constant “gotta rush” feeling. I’ve even stopped listening to music whilst working out. I’m weird/old, I know.

Doing: Wedding-related stuff. All of a sudden I blinked and we’re 4 months out from the wedding. How did this happen? It’s been a mad rush lately – tux rentals, wedding ring shopping, invite purchasing and printing….the list is starting to pile up quicker than I’d hope. You’d think a professional like myself would have her act together a bit more :-/

Reading: Marijuana Nation by Roger Roffman. The fiance had it sitting around so I picked it up recently. I’m not uber picky with my book topics; they just need to be well written and semi-interesting. With all of the happenings here in Washington State, it’s cool to read about this guy’s personal history with Mary Jane and his expertise leading back to his time in Vietnam.

Eating: Fruit, glorious, juicy fruit. I love this time of year when local cherries are in, blueberries are in abundance and peaches and nectarines are just hitting the farmer’s market. Bring on the pies!

Thinking about: What to get ma boo for his upcoming 31st bday. I pride myself in being an excellent gift giver so this gal needs to put her brain to work! I like giving things that are both useful/practical but have personal meaning behind them. After almost 8 years of dating, you’d think this would be easy for me….sigh.

Watching: GoT. The end. Enough said. If you are not watching Game of Thrones, we can’t be friends.

Loving: The blip of good weather we had over the weekend. We threw our first BBQ of the season with great success although I suspect we’ll be eating chips and hot dogs for the next two weeks. Hey, as long as there is cream cheese involved, I’m a-ok!

Listening to: This sounds way cheesy, but the birds. We’ve got a ton of feathered friends in the neighborhood and it’s kinda fun to sit outside and hear them chip at each other. That and the planes and helicopters flying overhead :-/

Doing: Taking hella naps. We’ve had a few mid-week days off for the holidays and I’ve been using every opportunity to sleep and sleep often. I’ve got a big few weeks ahead of me so the more rest I get now, the better shape I’ll be in on May 8.

Reading: GoT book 4 AGAIN. I like to have it fresh in my mind whilst watching the show 🙂

Eating: Chicken Tostado Salads from Taco Time. I have a big ole crush on Taco Time. It’s my go to “fast food” though I don’t think it should be in the same category as say, McDonald’s or Arby’s. TT is oh so fresh!

Thinking about: How to “marry” our finances once we’re actually married. We’ve always kept our monies separate – owning your own biz is way complicated and I didn’t want to get myself involved in that. But then I realize that we will have to file our taxes together next year and I’m totally starting to freaking out about ALL of our finances. I suspect we’ll need to hire an accountant, which I’ve never had to do, for our 2014 taxes. Man, this marriage thing isn’t just a quick trip down the aisle…..

Spring.

Gosh, it’s pretty around here in the springtime. Even with work crazy busy, I still try and get out for a few minutes every day to walk around the block, take in some fresh air and find views such as this!

Watching: (As of Sunday….)the Olympics! As a non-cable household, it’s pretty darn exciting to have something interesting to watch each night. Curling? Sure. Skeleton? Great! Ice skating? Hells yes! I love the personal stories that are woven into the programming too. Unfortunately, since Russia is so far ahead in time zone status, I usually know what is going to happen before I watch, but hey, that’s OK.

Loving: That spring is just around the corner (I think….) My yard is telling me that, so I’m going to go with it. I’ve been shopping for rain barrels online recently, half of my seeds are purchased and I’m just waiting a few more short weeks to plant the indoor starters.

Listening to: Ma new shuffle! I somehow broke my nano a while back only after a few uses – so annoying – so my man got me a purple one. Hopefully it will be hard to break that little thing, though I can see it getting washed :-/ Alt J, QOTSA and Jay Z are buzzing in my head again when stomping out those stairs!

Doing: Stressing out a bit about work. I’m usually a pretty stress free gal, but for some reason, my big event is making me nervous. Things just aren’t lining up like they have in previous years. We’ve got a big goal to make and I’m feeling some added weight on my shoulders. Fingers crossed that it’ll all pan out, but for now, I’m stressin.

Reading: Still nothing….I can get about as far as people.com these days. It’s a sad, sad thing when one does not read. I do hope to start the final GoT book though. My hairdresser said I can’t come back until I’ve read it.

Eating: 26 +/- some points each day. Ah yes, the Weight Watchers tracking system. My old, annoying friend. Trying to stay on the train with the help of lots of fruit, eggs, salads and the such until our engagment photos this weekend. I haven’t been uber good, but the scale slowly keeps creepin’ down so I’m sticking with it. (Sorry, not sorry homemade peanut butter cookies).

Thinking about: Next year ie. what it will be like to NOT have to plan and save for a wedding. Vacation days that won’t go towards wedding organization, monies that won’t have to be spent on flower arrangements or DJs, weekends that don’t include the trying on of dresses. Ahhhh….that will be a glorious time. I can’t wait.
