Movin’ Manure

Spring is finally here and I’ve cleared my weekends from here on out for gardening! I put the finishing touches on my layout on Friday and figured it was time to get some good, composty dirt for my garden beds. I’ve got an appointment with Flower World next Saturday with my aunt and mom so I needed to get the beds ready for all of the fantastic shade-loving plants I’m going to purchase.

We picked out the garden mix at Rede-Soil in Redmond and got a nice big truck-load of the smelly stuff. After one busted wheelbarrow and three hours of manual labor, we had a newly landscaped yard with raised garden beds! Unfortunately, it’s very stinky at this time, but I guess that means it’s nice and rich in nutrients. I’m trying to keep Stella out of it – the last thing I need is a poo smelling dog in the house!

We’re going to fill in the rest of the yard with pavers and gravel with plenty of moss to soften things up. I’ll be glad when I can just worry about pulling up the occasional weed and not having to do all of this back breaking work!

Vacation Wrap Up

Photo: Thanks to my work peeps for getting me through my first day back at work with a tropical drink courtsey of Cabana Boy Scott!
I’m home and it’s cold. Breezed through customs…..slept on the flights……didn’t lose any luggage…..all and all a long, but uneventful trek back. Still gettting used to the tan, but I’m sure that will fade in no time. Thank god for Aaron and Laura’s Panama wedding in October!

Zippy Zip Lines

Nothing to really report the last day and half besides hangin’ by the pool. Figured you didn’t need to hear about that…..went zip lining this afternoon – our first activity of the vacation! We drove up this super bumpy dirt road to Wild Canyon Adventures, which is right between Cabo and Cabo del Sol. We had a quick briefing and demonstration then they sent us on our way. To get the swing of things, we did a quick little line, then it was on to the big stuff.

My mom cried and screamed the entire time, but she made it. Some lines you went tandem while others you went alone. It was pretty crazy how much speed you could pick up! There was a lot of hiking in between the lines, which kinda sucked. You really had to work for those few seconds of fun on the line – oh well. Oh and sitting in those harness things – not exactly comfortable. Note to future zip liners: wear long shorts. Short shorts weren’t cutting it.

I think we’re going to take it easy tomorrow with a morning snorkel then will head to Cabo on Sunday for a day long boat/snorkel trip. Should be fun. Then I’ve just got one more day and it’s back to rainy Seattle.

Here Fishy

Starting to get into the swing of vacation finally. I think it takes a few days to really unwind yourself from everything. Let’s see…..less than a week left – time does fly. At this time next week, I’ll be boarding a flight from LAX back to Seattle. Heard the weather up there has been nice, go figure.

Finally am getting this sun tanning thing figured out too. Spent the morning poolside then went into town midday to shop and get out of the heat. Did a bunch of browsing, but didn’t get much. Saw some things I liked though. This pesos to dollar conversion messes me up. I attempted to buy some pottery I liked, but it ended up being $75 US. No thanks. I’m sure we’ll go back at the end of the trip or head to Cabo where I’ve heard they’ve got a ton more shops. Shopping kept us out of the sun while it was at its hottest so we could enjoy a leisurely jaunt back to the pool late afternoon. Now that’s how you suntan in Mexico!
