Sew fun no. 2!

Oh man, I think I’m officially addicted to sewing! Now I just need to buy myself one of those fancy machines 🙂 This placemat is the third out of four projects in the series. It involved a bit of quilting and a ton of embroidery, but it came together very easily! I suspect I could pop out 4 in an hour with no problem. There may be some holiday gifts coming your way people! My last class is actually this coming Sunday. I’m extremely tempted to take the beginning quilter’s series next. We’ll see if time allows……

The final piece!

A little up close quilter action.

Sew fun!

I signed myself up for a five part beginning sewing class a few weeks back when I had more free time on my hands and my 1,200 person event wasn’t fully looming on the horizon. Our first project was a nifty canvas tote that I totally rocked at. I was hooked. I was excited. I had found my new hobby!

Fast forward a few weeks, with the Luncheon shortly behind me….I’m exhausted. I’m worn out. I needed days where there was nothing I needed to do but relax…..and suddenly my iphone reminder for my sewing class pops up. Argh. Crap. Ugh. This is the last thing I want to do. I make a quick jaunt to the fabric store to pick up my supplies and rush to my three hour class in a totally bad mood. I DO NOT WANT TO BE HERE.

Then we turn on our machines and sewing begins to happen and colorful, zippered bags start to take form. I’m hooked again. I’m happy. I’m having so much fun that the three hours fly by and I end up with this:

Pretty, darn cool if you ask me! That’s a zipped pouch, fully lined with a touch of embroidery natch. This is the hardest class in the series and if you ask me, I think I rocked it out 🙂 I also learned that there’s a late night open sewing workshop twice per month, where you can sew whatever your heart desires AND use their uber nice sewing machines. OMG. More zippered pouches to come!

If you are looking for a good, entry level class series, check them out at Quality Sewing & Vacuum. They’ve got locations all over the Seattle area though teacher Jamie in the Kirkland location is pretty darn good :-)

Sew what?

I cashed in a Groupon at the very last minute last weekend for a sewing class. I tots wasn’t really feeling it at first and ALMOST ditched class….man, I’m so glad that I didn’t! I’d always wanted to learn how to sew; I’d messed around on our family machine off and on, but nothing ever came out very well.  Curtain hemming was my level of expertise. Womp, womp.

I spent 3 hours that Sunday learning how to make this tote bag, which I fully lined too! I admit, the tote is not really my style and you’ll probably never see me rockin’ it. But what it lacks in style, I gained in sewing confidence! I was so excited that I caught on so fast that I signed myself up for 3 more classes. I’ve also been pinning items like a fool. I can’t wait to tackle some projects on my own! Now I just need to get one of them sewing machines……..

Weekend in review

It’s been a crazy few weeks around here and work is starting to kick into high gear. I’ve been trying to get in some fun before the Luncheon becomes the all consuming monster it tends to be. Visits with friends, crafts and cross country skiing all topped my list this past weekend.

A little event planner networking event at MOHAI’s new location in the SLU.
Luncheon centerpiece brainstorm.
My first attempt at a diaper cake. Success.
Diaper cake topper. A whale of a tale.
My new fav hobby!

It’s Party Time!

As in Valentine’s Day Blogging Party Time! I had a great time getting to know my secret Valentine gal pal, Megan, via the internetz. Her blog is full of lovely photographs, her amazing crochet work and most importantly, her family (including the furry ones!) I thought it was sorta fun to be paired with someone who is literally on the opposite corner of the country. Hello Florida!

Now, onto the good stuff! Megan must have sensed my crafty side and endulged me in a ton-o-supplies including paper, tags and stickers all put into a fun re-usable tote. You can never have too many totes! And come on, those tags are right down my aisle (especially the ‘I Need’ one…hehehe).

Thank you Megan for the thoughtful gifts and thank you to these lovely ladies below for setting this up! It was a great way to virtually meet someone whose blog I might never come across. I can’t wait to participate in another one of these blogger exchanges!
